  1. Ok, I’ll admit to coming back to West Wing after not watching most of last season. Amazing Race is often on at our house, and I watched Comander in Chief to see if it has possibilities. Jury is still out on that, but I like the idea.
Of course I should be reading a book or grading papers, but everyone needs some mindless time, right?

  2. Lost, Alias, Everybody Hates Chris, House M.D. Those are the big ones. I’m trying to keep my watching to a minimum. In fact, I’ll have to choose between Alias and Everybody Hates Chris because I can’t afford TiVo. (Alias wins.)

  3. Medium. House. Gilmore Girls. Lost. West Wing. ER. Of new shows this season, I’m giving Kitchen Confidential and Threshold a chance. I also tried How I Met Your Mother but didn’t like it.

  4. I watch Battlestar Galactica, Lost, That 70’s Show (sporadically), Family Guy, Weeds, South Park, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and Robot Chicken. The trend that might be suggested by those last few shows is… uh… purely coincidental.
Also just started watching How I Met Your Mother to drool over Alyson Hannigan (we actually liked the pilot, but thought the 2nd episode was so-so), and am patiently waiting for the new seasons of Carnivale, L-Word, and Sopranos. And we used to watch Six Feet Under. sniff! sob!
My wife, Erika, watches ER, Kathy Griffin’s My Life on the D List, Jeopardy, and L&O:SVU (I fast-forward through it to just watch the Diane Neal scenes — I’m sounding creepy now, aren’t I?).
I also like to catch short films and music videos (which have improved greatly over the past decade, maybe due to the success of guys like Spike Jonze and Michel Gondry). I think short films are poised to experience a renaissance, as TiVo makes standard show lengths less relevant and portable devices and podcasting and vidcasting start proliferating.

  5. Everyone is watching Lost instead of Veronica Mars, huh. Too bad–you’re missing some great television.
I also have Nip/Tuck and Numb3rs on the TiVo, and I’ve been reluctantly watching House. The stories are contrived, the supporting cast is mostly nails-on-chalkboard bad, but Hugh Laurie is fabulous.

  6. I am a TV addict: Simpsons (first-run and syndication), Family Guy (ditto), Arrested Development, My Name Is Earl, The Office, Everybody Hates Chris, and once it starts up, Scrubs. Embarrassingly, I am still hooked on ER, even though it sucks rhino.

  7. I watch mindless shows only. Too much serious matter in my life, I watch TV to escape it. I watch Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy. On MTV I watch Laguna Beach, My Super Sweet Sixteen, Real Life, The Real World. I love The Family Guy, and my surprise favorite new show is My Name Is Earl.

  8. Thank God for TiVo because now we can watch like 40 times as much bad TV as before.
    Arrested Development (funniest show ever)
    Everbody Hates Chris
    Lost
    The Apprentice: Martha Stewart
    Grey’s Anatomy
    Desperate Housewives
    Alias
    Laguna Beach
    The Real World

  9. House, The Daily Show, West Wing and Desperate Housewives.
Never seen Lost and can’t stand Reality TV.
I used to watch a show called “Huff” but I have run out of time and don’t watch anymore.

  10. I haven’t watch a television show since last spring. But when my daughter comes home for Thanksgiving, we are going to watch some back seasons of the Gilmore Girls. Does that count?

  12. The new Battlestar Galactica. It’s on mid-season hiatus from now until January, but you can get the first season with the original miniseries on DVD now.

  13. I don’t watch TV. Yeah, right.
Let’s see, TIVO was supposed to help us cut down on TV, only watching what we wanted to…
Love Gilmore Girls, Deadwood, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Two and a Half Men, Arrested Development, West Wing, The Daily Show, and I keep watching the last episode of Six Feet Under cause I miss it so much! Same goes for old Sex and the City’s!

  14. My “active” TiVo season passes of first-run shows: House, Veronica Mars, NUMB3RS, and How I Met Your Mother (the last for basically the same reason as fling93). And my sports fix: Pardon the Interruption on ESPN.
I also am devoted to Sci-Fi Friday (Stargate: SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Battlestar Galactica), but it’s on haitus until January.
As far as reruns go, I’m religious about watching Inspector Morse (John Thaw, RIP) and Jonathan Creek, and I’m trying to get through The Prisoner (since I now have BBC America again).

  15. House, first and foremost. Stupid freakin’ baseball. (No, I don’t really mean that — we’re in the playoffs as usual. Go Cards!)
I’m trying to watch Bones beforehand, but it’s not gonna make it, I fear. Too much faux science, upon which the holey plots turn. Everyone and everything is too pretty for the jobs and subject matter. I’m not buying the female lead as either conflicted or socially-inept. And the PR people keep pushing the “chemistry” between the leads, but it’s just not there.
Hockey season starts tomorrow, so there’ll be a lot of that playing until next April.
Battlestar Galactica and Deadwood when they come off hiatus next year. I was sucked into the latter by Hubby; it’s too addictive.
And I just may have to start watching Smallville now. Figure it out for yourselves; I sure won’t admit it out loud.

  16. how odd that everyone is watching roughly the same TV shows. There really is a blog reader/writer personality type. Same books, TVs, movies. Soon we’ll all be going to Medieval Fairs together. I’ve always wanted to wear a corset.

  17. I’m afraid I’m the outlier then, Laura. I’ve yet to watch a single episode of House, Desperate Housewives, the new Battlestar Galactica, Gilmore Girls, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Arrested Development, House, Nip/Tuck, or the Amazing Race. In fact, aside from the final episode of the first episode of Survivor, way back in 2000 or so, I’ve never watched a whole episode on any reality show. As for other stuff, well, I did watch the season finale of Lost on reruns over the summer; nicely written, but I decided I didn’t want to get sucked into it. We watched the West Wing until about three years ago; has the quality picked back up again? I did give the original L&O a try again this year, and liked what I saw. (I burned out on L&O a few years back as well.)
What do we watch on television? Well, basically, just the original CSI, some PBS programs, and, starting this year, My Name Is Earl. Pathetic, I know.
But don’t bounce me from the in-group! For example, we love Renaissance Faires. Walking around, surrounded by people in medieval costume, taking the kids to see the sword swallowers and the jousting matches–now you’re talking fun.

  18. What, no love for BBC America’s “Footballers Wives”?
    Trashiest, funnest soap *ever*.
But as far as everyone else’s selections, I’m down with pretty much 99 percent of them. What fine taste you all have.
Another obscurity I’d like to pitch: Slings and Arrows on Sundance. Watch for it, I think it’s in repeats now. It’s a juicy backstage drama about a theater festival. One of the Kids in the Hall guys is behind it.

  19. As you know Russell, I am an outlier on these things too. So maybe you’ll take me seriously if I recommend trying House. I confess, I spent the first 5 episodes staring at Laurie in disbelief, but after that it mellowed into a perfectly ok show for me.

  20. I watch several of the ones mentioned already, but I want to pitch The Office, which has made me gasp with laughter during two different episodes. It’s hard to explain how funny this show is.
I also like Everwood a lot; excellent writing and acting.
