Blogher Conference

Last Friday, I was digging around for some real information about the Blogher conference, rather than long posts dedicated to the beauty and bone structure of the fellow attendees.

Here are some interesting links and commentary: Liz Ditz, Julie Leung, and Shelley. Jay Rosen also has post on the topic and a ton of links. Then I got sucked into the comments section at Kevin Drum’s blog with the personal v. political blog rumble going on.

  1. Hi there, it was a great day! Exciting for me to meet so many people I feel I “know” in the flesh.
I have this sort of mantra: “the blog is just a tool, just like a digital mimeograph”. It is silly to posit that “blogging” is this, that, or the other–it is what the user makes of it.
Shelley Sweeney, at Burningbird, had a great point about the discussion over linking and flaming:
    http://weblog.burningbird.net/
“Reading the liveblogging and other notes from the sessions, supposedly, one gathers, some want more of the one–more visibility, more links– without the other–shaming, blaming, and flaming. This seemed to me to be both confusing and a contradiction; it’s the same as saying you want to take a strong stand on an issue, but you don’t want to defend it.”
I thought the Flame, Blame, Shame discussion was interesting, but missed (to some degree) the point. The point to me was how to manage our own reactions when a hurtful comment is made. They WILL be made, at some point; the deal is what you do next.

  2. Roxanne, I saw a lot of good comments about the conference from you on other people’s blogs. Amused by your head to head with Jay Rosen.
Did the “mommy blogs” really get dissed again at the conference?
