The oldest is the brunette, Megan, age 6. Megan’s verbal IQ is the stratosphere. My sister taught her how to sing the Eensy Weensy Spider in Spanish at 14 months. Megan is fast talking and competitive. Whenever Megan and Jonah get together, the competitions start immediately. Who can hit the ball the farthest? Who can build the tallest Lego structure? Who can make the silliest sound? Jonah and Megan are only 9 months apart and despite all the competition, they can often be found with arms interlinked around each other’s neck.
Then there is Jonah who’s almost 5.
Next comes Erin, my sister’s second daughter, age 4. Where Megan is a machine gun of energy and words, Erin is soft and sweet. Sentences come out shyly from Little Girl and often after a series of “um, um, um” ‘s. Erin is more likely on her mom’s lap snuggling a doll than her tougher sister. Sensing her big heart, Ian follows Erin around like a puppy dog.
Ian is now 3.
Last comes Julia, 7 months. Julia is my brother’s little girl. Chris is sick in love with his daughter who churps to herself contentedly in the crib. We get pictures e-mailed daily with little baby smiles. When his wife carries Julia into the room, Chris’s face lights up with joy. And who can blame him? Clearly, she’s a superior baby.
I’m lucky enough to live about twenty minutes from my entire family. This picture was taken in my parent’s backyard on a Tuesday, when we all went over for pasta.
How fun! It’s great to have family nearby–something we’ve had to do without for the most part. And now I remember you talking about Megan before. Our oldest, also named Megan, is also a verbal whiz. Coincidence?
Cute! Ian and Jonah we know, but who are the others? Names and ages, perhaps?
