From time to time, bloggers feel compelled to post a list of questions and then pass them along the blogosphere. Like Rana, I’m pretty grouchy about the whole thing. I’m just not a quiz person.
Yes, I know that the memes are harmless and all. It does jog the memory about books that we used to love. These meme things are also good for the blog business, because it always involves linking to other bloggers. Passing the traffic around is what we’re supposed to do. So, (grumble) I’ll do my thing.
I got tagged for the latest meme by Anne Cunningham, and one of the questions amused me, so I’ll answer that one.
Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character?
Oh yeah. I read too much in those formidable years of middle school. So, like Jo(e), Gilbert Blythe of Anne of Green Gables was a big one. As was Mr. Darcy, Mr. Rochester, and Peter Parker. But my first big fictional crush was animated. Okay, he wasn’t even a homo sapien. My first big fictional crush, when I was five, was on Underdog. Sick, I know, but it might explain some unfortuneate choices in boyfriends in my 20s.

Presumptuous of me to tag you, I know. But I did feel some interest in your reading, after the “Envy” thing.

Thanks, Anne. I’m glad I could point you to something good. I liked “Envy” a lot. I also really enjoyed Laura Hillenbrand’s short essay about her sickness. In fact, I just reread it a couple of nights ago. I wish I could have more good stuff to recommend right now, but I’ve been engrossed in all sorts of boring reading on speech delays. I didn’t answer all the questions, because I didn’t think anyone else would have much interest in that stuff.

What parent wouldn’t want an Underdog-smitten daughter? Well, okay, we know which type. But we aren’t that type. Up with Underdog.
I know my parents were a bit worried by my crush on Mr. Green-Jeans, since “Farmer’s Daughter” was what they were trying to get away from.

When criminals in this world appear,
And break the laws that they should fear,
And frighten all who see or hear,
The cry goes up both far and near,
For Underdog! Underdog! Underdog! Underdog!
Speed of lightning, roar of thunder,
Fighting all who rob or plunder! Underdog! Underdog!
When in this world the headlines read,
Of those whose hearts are filled with greed,
Who rob and steal from those who need,
To right this wrong with blinding speed,
Goes Underdog! Underdog! Underdog! Underdog!
Speed of lightning, roar of thunder,
Fighting all who rob or plunder! Underdog! Underdog!
I was crazy about the Underdog cartoon as a kid. Megan knows the theme song thanks to her having heard me sing it numerous times. Yes, I am a bad parent. And I loved Commander McBragg too. (Not in that way. But, since it was brought up…)

The spoils of estrogen month
Estrogen month has come to a close. Elayne’s challenge, although intended for the big boys and not for me, helped me realize how long it’d been since I’d gone looking for new blogs or updated the blog roll to reflect…
