Eberstadt — Book Review/Discussion Next Week

I’m reading Home-Alone America: The Hidden Toll of Day Care, Behavioral Drugs, and Other Parent Substitutes by Mary Eberstadt.

Book review next week. Previous discussion here.

UPDATE: Another review here. A Rebel Dad review.

  1. All I know is that my kid begs to go to day care on the 4 days she doesn’t go (she just turned 2). Since she started day care, she’s been more verbal, reads more, has fewer tantrums in public, says please and thank you consistently. Further, the day care teachers have helped us solve problems like bedtime routine, eating issues. I can’t imagine starting toilet training without their help.

  2. I’m still reading, David, but I don’t think she says that some daycare is bad or even that certain kids do fine in it. It’s more the cummulative effect on all of society. I’ll discuss more next week. Save all good comments until then.
