Lime Green or Yellow?

On the 30 minute drive to my parents’ house for dinner, I decide that it was a good time to practice with Ian for his driving test.

“Ian, put your phone down, it’s traffic sign time.”

[groan; ear buds are grudgingly removed.]

“Alright, what sign is that?”

“Railroad Crossing.”

“Right. Now, what sign is that?”

“H is for Hospital to the Right.”

“Yes. Here comes another. It’s yellow with children on it.”

“That isn’t yellow. It’s lime green.”

“It’s yellow.”

“No, it’s lime green.”

“It’s yellow.”

“No, it’s lime green.”

“Ian, the department of motor of vehicles for New Jersey is going to give you a multiple choice test and they are going to ask you about this yellow sign. They aren’t going to call it lime green. If DMV says it’s yellow, then it’s yellow.”

“FINE. It’s yellow.”

“What kind of a sign is it?”

“It’s a people crossing sign.”

“No, that’s a school crossing sign. See, those are pictures of children.”

“Those aren’t children.”

“Yes, they are children.”

“Those aren’t children.”

“Yes, they are children.”

“They why are they carrying briefcases?”

“Those aren’t briefcases; they are book bags.”

“Children carry backpacks. Why don’t they have backpacks?”

“BECAUSE THE SIGN WAS PROBABLY MADE IN THE 1950s. I DON’T KNOW. DMV DOESN’T CARE. JUST KNOW THAT IT’S A SCHOOL CROSSING SIGN.”

“FINE!”
