Gift Guide 2010 #6 — The Video Game Collection

Video games are a big part of the holidays around here. Happy Dysfunctional Christmas, everyone! I'm still looking for a game for Steve in the Rome/Age of Empires sort of genre. Any suggestions would be welcome.

  1. Kirby's Epic Yarn
  2. Raving Rabbids Travel in Time
  3. Kinect Sports (The boys wish they were getting an Xbox 360 4GB Console with Kinect, but not this year. I have to admit that Dance Central looks like a lot of fun.)
  4. Disney Epic Mickey (I think that Art-boy might like this. Another art-based game — Super Scribblenauts )
  5. LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4

  1. Epic yarn is a recent fave for both my kis (boy 8, girl 10) although they like it for different reasons. It’s a very “pretty” game visually and my daughter loves the colors, decorations and pretty prizes. My son though just sees all the jumping, driving fast, floating around and other (non violent) action.I highly recommend it for all ages and genders.
I myself have asked for Super Scribblenauts. I was fairly addicted to the first one and have heard this is even better.

  2. My husband the Roman historian recommends Rome Total War. It is now available for macs and he just put it on his wish list.

  3. Yes, Angry Birds is fun. I have as an app on my iPhone. It keep Ian busy when we’re waiting on line somewhere.
Lucy, Rome Total War is great. Well, I haven’t played it myself, but Steve and Jonah play it for hours. I’m looking for something in that genre. Maybe the Civilization series.

  4. Our family loves the Munchkin card game series. It’s not a video game, but it’s very, very geeky. I think I’ll get them Munchkin Cthulhu this year.

  5. O very yes, cranberry. Next time I am Stateside, I want to geek out and catch up on about a decade’s worth of Munchkin supplements. But I have been a fan of SJ Games (and of course S.J. games) for an embarrassingly long time.
