Labor Day Weekend = APSA = GeekAlert by Macaroni

APSA 2 by Macaroni

One of my research areas is the study of bloggers and the blogosphere. Currently I'm writing a piece on that examines how Clinton and Obama used  blogs during the 2008 primaries. This is all well and good, but I have not started analyzing any of the data for the impending American Political Science Association's Annual Conference, held Labor Day weekend. The paper I will present at APSA investigates political blogs that focus on New York state politics, during the three month period leading to the budget.

haven't I begun? Below I offer some alternative explanations:

 1. I'm
blogging for the first time. Why start a new research project?

 2. I'm
waiting for the research fairy to materialize.

 3. I
despise content analysis. T.E.D.I.O.U.S

 4. I'm
pondering "to sample or not to sample, that is the

 5. I
want to go to the beach.

 6. I
have no summer funding, and just found out. (Yes, don't ask.)

 7. Does
anyone care about state politics? (Well, yes, thanks to scandalicious

 8. I'm
contemplating another research project titled, "Dirty, Sexy

 9. I
want to finish the Clinton/Obama paper before delving into a new paper.

10. Spending
Labor Day with poorly dressed political scientists is frankly depressing (

  1. Hey, 11d. You are one of my idols and I don’t know anyone at APSA. Any chance you’d like to get together — or would that be too weird? Wondering if any of your other readers are polisci people too. Maybe we could all get together. What do you think?

  2. Oh, that’s super nice, Mary. Yes, a blogger/blog reader/friend of 11D (FOE) and other pol sci blogs would be great fun. I’m doing APSA things on Friday. On Sat, I have a presentation and then family stuff. Gotta visit old Auntie Edna. 95 and still smoking, God love her. Maybe we should do drinky-poos at 5ish on Friday. Macaroni, do you have to do IT business then?

  3. I plan on being at your presentation on Saturday morning, Laura; it’s scheduled right after my own. I don’t know what all I’ll be doing on Thursday and Friday, but I assume they’ll be stuff going on. Hope we’ll have time to talk at some point!

  4. Probably not; there is an absolute can’t-miss panel (for me anyway) at 4:15 on Friday (Charles Taylor is speaking). But afterward, before the dinner receptions, maybe? I’d thought maybe lunch after your panel on Saturday, but perhaps you already have family stuff line up.
I’d be neat to get together a bunch of polisci bloggers for meet and greet–you and me, Jacob, Dan, Henry and others, plus new people. We’re probably too disparate in our interests and schedules to organize, though.

  5. I wonder if they could fill a whole APSA panel with people who share names with shoes. Chuck Taylor, Phil Converse, Michael Sandel (close enough).
