I have long had a literary crush on Anthony Lane. Today, my crush is renewed, because he talks about Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Charlie Wilson’s War. Charlie Wilson’s War features some great acting from Tom Hanks, but it’s not worth watching it again, except for the scenes with Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Lane writes,
I sometimes watch “Rear Window” just for the kick of seeing Thelma Ritter (and that’s in a movie that already boasts Grace Kelly and Jimmy Stewart, for heaven’s sake), and, with the same hunger, I often watch “Charlie Wilson’s War” (2007) for the scenes with Philip Seymour Hoffman.
